Kolkata Doctor Rape and Murder Case Supreme Court Hearing Live: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a progress report on the investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to the Supreme Court ahead of today’s hearing.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, reviewed the case on Tuesday (August 20) after taking suo motu cognizance. The court had requested status reports from both the CBI on the rape-murder investigation and from the Bengal government regarding the vandalism at RG Kar hospital.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted a psychological analysis of Sanjay Roy, the sole person arrested in the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case. The analysis reveals Roy as a sexual deviant with "animal-like instincts." Psychoanalysts, after reviewing Roy's statements and the victim's postmortem report, confirmed his lack of emotion while recounting the crime. Technical evidence places Roy at the crime scene, though CBI has not commented on DNA test results. Earlier, Kolkata Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) had linked the victim's injuries to Roy through blood and skin traces.
Meanwhile, a CISF team, led by senior officers, has started a security assessment of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Following a Supreme Court order, CISF personnel will soon be deployed to manage hospital security in collaboration with Kolkata Police. Around 180 CISF personnel are expected to take charge, supplementing the existing 524 police officers. On Wednesday, CISF DIG K Pratap Singh inspected key hospital areas and identified three rooms for temporary barracks. A detailed assessment of the hospital’s security needs is underway, with additional coordination planned between CISF and Kolkata Police. Stay tuned with TOI for latest updates:
